| New Members/Member News/ For Sale |
a | Member news including exclusive WE photographs for sale, new Members, and the First Member Conference of the Duke & Duchess of Windsor Society schedule for October 16-19, 2009 at the chic Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. Featured speaker for the event will be noted historian/biographer, Hugo Vickers, author of The Private World of the Duke & Duchess of Windsor as well as the upcoming new biography, BEHIND CLOSED DOORS: The Life and Death of the Duchess of Windsor. Additional, guest speakers to include Society Member James Leo who is former dean of the American Cathedral and vicar to the Duchess of Windsor in her final years. Leo adminstered last rights to the Duchess and performed the burial services for her at Frogmore. Leo will be signing his memoirs, Exits and Entrances. Also guest speaking will be Society Member Richard Rene Silvin, who is currently writing a memoir about his friendship with the Duchess of Windsor, titled Noblesse Oblige. Silvin was a friend of the Duchess' in the early 70s when he was administrator of the American Hospital in Paris, an organization where the both the Windsors received their healthcare and also in which the duchess served on the Board of Governors. The event will feature a cocktail party and gala dinner Saturday night, with a custom menu prepared by the hotel's chef which features menu items or recipes of the Duchess of Windsor. Entertainment will include excerpts by Society Member and playwright and actress, Lena Farugia, author of the Duchess of Windsor play, UNTITLED, which recently had its European debut this year in London at the Finborough Theater. The event will also feature the research material by Benjamin Sacks, PhD, including the Legend of The Duchess of Windsor and Coronado. |
